Reduce Your Impact … At Work

Limit the Paper You Use

  • Don't print emails, calendars or meeting invitations.
  • If you must print, print double-sided and preview before printing so you only print the information you need.

FACT: The average American uses approximately 500 pounds of paper a year, equivalent to cutting down six trees per person per year.

Use Electronic Note Taking

  • When you are taking notes at a meeting, use a laptop whenever possible instead of a notebook.

Bring Your Own Mug

  • Skip the Styrofoam cup and bring your own stylish mug.

FACT: Americans throw away 25,000,000,000 Styrofoam coffee cups every year!

Plan "Greener" Meetings

  • When planning meetings with more than one location, utilize any green options offered by your company – video conferencing, web conferencing or port calls.
  • If travel is necessary, try to "share-a-ride" with other meeting attendees.
  • If you are planning a meeting with refreshments, order pitchers of beverages with reusable glasses & mugs. Request china and silverware instead of paper plates and utensils.

FACT: Americans use 2,500,000 plastic bottles every year, and most of them are thrown away!.

Reuse Office Supplies

  • File folders, binders and interoffice mail envelopes can all be reused.
  • Save old papers for scratch at your desk.

Turn Out the Lights

  • When you leave for meetings—and especially at the end of the day—turn off lights, radios and any other electronic devices.
